Three words used to describe the artist and their work
unique | surprising | evocative
When she moved to Cape Cod in 2013, Flax revived a technique of representational collage that she originally developed in her twenties. She calls her work “Cut Paper Mosaics,” as she uses scissors to cut reclaimed paper which is applied with glue in brush-stroke-like patterns, which reference the natural shapes and movement in the landscapes they depict. She uses her art-making as a lens through which to view her beautiful surroundings, in varying degrees of representation and abstraction.
She and her work have been written about in Fiber Arts Now!, Cape Cod Magazine, Cape Cod Life, Artscope, The Enterprise, and Wikipedia. She is also the illustrator of a children’s book, If I Were a Bumble Bee (2021).
Flax is an Elected Member of Audubon Artists, Inc., (at the Salmagundi Club, NYC); and an artist member of: Fuller Craft Museum, Provincetown Art Association and Museum, the Cotuit Center for the Arts, the Cultural Center of Cape Cod, the Cape Cod Museum of Art and the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod. She is represented by Creative Hands Gallery in Osterville, MA.
